Born in 1998, Clarence Kang is an Autistic savant with an extraordinary talent in Music and Art. During infancy, Clarence was ahead of his age: reading books and able to recognize difficult vocabularies. However, he had very little eye contact and does not respond to people well. At the age of three, he was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD).
At the age of four, Clarence developed a penchant for art from his sister who took up drawing as a hobby. His hands (and walls) were never clean as he was constantly drawing! Vehicles (cars, ships, and planes) and buildings were his favorite subjects. However, being a perfectionist, he often threw away artworks that he deemed unsatisfactory. As an artist, his artworks were featured at several places: Clarence’s debut concert at PJ Live Arts (PJLA) and KLCC ‘Purple Day’ Art Exhibition where two of his artworks were reproduced on T-Shirts to be sold as premium items at the said event.
Besides art, Clarence has been dabbing with music since 8 years old. He would listen to songs on the radio and play them from memory. Without any formal training, he is able to read music notes, memorize pieces easily (photographic memory), transcribing, compose music, and analyze complicated chords. At 10, he started formal training and is a fast learner. Some notable teachers who have taught Clarence are Dr. Nicholas Ong and Tay Cher Siang.
